P08: Global health clinical rotation for medical residents in Costa Rica

Clinical rotation program for medical residents from abroad. First, second and third year residents in internal medicine, pediatrics, family medicine and others are welcome.

This rotation is designed to allow residents from all over the world to participate in the activities of the health team from the first to the third level of care of the Costa Rican Health System (Caja Costarricense de Seguro Social – CCSS). In the first level, preventative services are emphasized, including immunizations, maternal and child services, prenatal care, growth and development of children, nutrition, community education, community sanitation and environment, as well as continuity of care in cases of chronic diseases. In the third level, the experiences vary according to the specialty.

This rotation is competency-based, exposing students to working with Hispanic populations and learning about and accepting cultural differences as a fundamental scientific and ethical principle of medical practice.
